Why You Should Avoid Checkbook Journalism

Why You Should Avoid Checkbook Journalism Checkbook news coverage is when journalists or news associations pay hotspots for data, and for an assortment of reasons most media sources dislike such practices or boycott them inside and out. The Society of Professional Journalists, a gathering that advances moral norms in news coverage, says checkbook news coverage isn't right and shouldnt be utilized ever. Andy Schotz, executive of the SPJs morals board of trustees, says paying a hotspot for data or a meeting promptly puts the believability of the data they give in question. Trading cash when youre searching for data from a source changes the idea of the connection between the columnist and the source, Schotz says. It raises doubt about whether theyre conversing with you since its the correct activity or on the grounds that theyre getting cash. Schotz says journalists considering paying hotspots for data ought to ask themselves: Will a paid source come clean with you, or mention to you what you need to hear? Paying sources makes different issues. By paying a source you currently have a business relationship with somebody youre attempting to cover dispassionately, Schotz says. Youve made an irreconcilable situation all the while. Schotz says most news associations have approaches against checkbook reporting. Be that as it may, of late there is by all accounts a pattern to attempt to make a differentiation between paying for a meeting and paying for something different. This is by all accounts particularly valid for TV news divisions, various which have paid for select meetings or photos (see beneath). Total honesty is Important Schotz says if a media source pays a source, they ought to uncover that to their perusers or watchers. On the off chance that theres an irreconcilable circumstance, at that point what should come next is clarifying it in detail, telling watchers you had a different relationship other than only that of a columnist and a source, Schotz says. Schotz concedes that news associations not having any desire to be scooped on a story may fall back on checkbook reporting, however he includes: Competition doesnt give you permit to cross moral limits. Schotz guidance for yearning writers? Dont pay for interviews. Dont give sources endowments of any sort. Dont attempt to trade something of significant worth as an end-result of getting a sources remarks or data or access to them. Writers and sources shouldnt have some other relationship other than the one associated with social affair news. Here are a few instances of checkbook reporting, as per the SPJ: ABC News paid $200,000 to Casey Anthony, the Florida lady blamed for executing her 2-year-old little girl, Caylee, for elite rights to recordings and pictures that ran on the system and its site. Prior ABC had paid for Caylee Anthonys grandparents to remain three evenings at a lodging as a major aspect of the systems intend to talk with them.CBS News apparently consented to pay Caylee Anthonys grandparents $20,000 as a permitting charge to take an interest in the systems news coverage.ABC paid for Pennsylvania inhabitant Anthony Rakoczy to get his little girl in Florida after a phony grabbing endeavor and for return boarding passes for Rakoczy and his little girl. ABC secured the excursion and revealed the free air travel.NBC News gave a contracted stream to New Jersey inhabitant David Goldman and his child to fly home from Brazil after a care fight. NBC got a selective meeting with Goldman and video film during that personal jet ride.CNN paid $10,000 for the rights to a picture take n by Jasper Schuringa, the Dutch resident who overwhelmed a supposed Christmas Day plane on a departure from Amsterdam to Detroit. Structure and Agency in Media and Culture Essay

Structure and Agency in Media and Culture - Essay Example The paper tells that a discussion, progressing for a considerable length of time is industrious in deciding the connection among structure and office. There is a steady battle to connect the structure-organization relationship void and numerous methodologies and speculations have been introduced in such manner. This paper recommends that Critical Realism Theory offers an answer by introducing a functional method to experience the issue of structure-organization relations and settings. In the case of thinking about the intentional or arranged activities of subjects, or miniaturized scale/full scale examination of a general public or individual, the discussion on structure and office relationship continues repeating. This basic pragmatist approach battles that structure and organization relationship must be concentrated so as to more readily comprehend and clarify society or social activities. This should be cultivated to accomplish a steady condition of society and furthermore to obli ge positive social change including singular advancement. The Critical Theory is brought into the world with the suspicion that social world needs improvement and changes, as it is profoundly defective. This hypothesis likewise discredits expectation and clarification to control the social world. The sole point of this hypothesis is to examine the social world so as to improve it. It scrutinizes and looks to change the overwhelming social request. Basic hypothesis is political in nature as difficulties and defies the manner in which individuals are dominated. It is additionally incredulous of the associations that activity released capacity to acquire their objectives. The hypothesis accepts that the social world is the aftereffect of communication among structure and agency.... So as to draw near to the arrangements of office structure issue, we should think about the transformative patterns of conduct for each ontological position (Hay). The interlaced connection among office and structure presents numerous arrangements in a sound and methodical way. Taking an alternate talk to the presumption that office and structure plainly separated spaces and each activity requires a prior structure (Archer, 198), though the basic pragmatist hypothesis declares that condition and mode of organization direct are vital pre-necessities for the constitution of structures. Their reality is socially persuasive and neither can exist in detachment from the other (Hay). We are not in generous control of the social settings in which we live in, anyway it unquestionably requires the activity of organization to become somebody and be marked in that capacity (Agency Textbook, 2). The agent’s specific choices and acts are impacted by settings in which the choice is made. Tak ing part in specific acts is a consequence of logical variables and our decisions are a result of the wild settings as we figure out how to need the things according to the relevant environmental factors. Instead of a natural source, our fantasies, goals, and organization are interlaced with the relevant sources (Agency Textbook, 2). The elements of intensity decide the empowering and limitation of office as one needs to exhibit a specific measure of capacity to practice office. Force is constantly arranged and moves as often as possible with a numerous, decentralized, and diffused structure (Agency Textbook, 3). The intricate structure of intensity impacts office fundamentally in light of the fact that how force is practiced on us and how we exhibit power,

How to Get Mental Health Insurance and Use It Wisely

How to Get Mental Health Insurance and Use It Wisely Psychotherapy Print How to Find Mental Health Insurance Get the Most From It Resources for Getting Mental Health Coverage By Elizabeth Davis, RN linkedin Elizabeth Davis, RN, is a health insurance expert and patient liaison. Shes held board certifications in emergency nursing and infusion nursing. Learn about our editorial policy Elizabeth Davis, RN Updated on January 26, 2020 Chris Madden / Moment / Getty Images More in Psychotherapy Online Therapy Mental health services can be costly, whether for a short-term crisis or a chronic condition. If you dont have mental health insurance, the out-of-pocket cost might cause you to forgo care you need, or to use fewer services to save money. If you do have mental health insurance, the burden of paying your share of the cost can add stress during an already stressful time. Along with how to identify mental health coverage  you might not be aware you have, here are some resources for finding mental health insurance if you dont have it, and tips for getting the most out of mental health insurance once you do. Employee Assistance Programs Your employer may offer some mental health benefits within an Employee Assistance Program. EAP benefits are paid for by your employer, accessing benefits are usually free, and the problem you seek help with doesnt have to be work-related. While EAPs arent designed to provide long-term treatment, a mental health professional will evaluate your needs, initiate crisis intervention and short-term treatment, and provide referrals if the EAP services arent sufficient to resolve the issue. Check your employee benefits handbook or call your benefits office to see if you have an EAP. Tips: If youve exhausted your free EAP benefits and need more assistance, ask if your employer has arranged discounted out-of-pocket rates for continuing care from the mental healthcare professional that provided your EAP services. Sticking with the same mental healthcare professional will save you the time required to build rapport with someone new. Youll also save the expense of another initial evaluation.Your free EAP benefits renew each year. If youve exhausted all of your free benefits this year, check with your EAP provider at the beginning of next year. You may find youre eligible for free benefits again. Behavioral Health Benefits Within Your Existing Group Health Insurance Even if your existing health insurance doesnt specifically list mental healthcare in the plan summary, it may still provide mental health insurance within the behavioral health section of the benefits package. Check the behavioral health section of the policy literature for more specifics about any mental health insurance benefits it may provide. Tips: If your employer offers a choice of insurance plans, check the mental health coverage of each option carefully during your open enrollment period. A more expensive plan that provides mental health coverage may ultimately save you money over a low-cost plan without mental health benefits. If your employer doesnt offer mental health insurance, see if it offers a Flexible Spending Account. An FSA allows you to put aside pre-tax money to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses such as psychotherapy, psychiatry visits, and prescription medications. This doesnt decrease the cost of the care itself, but youll save by not paying income tax on the FSA money you use to pay for the care. Purchasing Mental Health Insurance Mental health insurance is generally purchased within the framework of a medical health insurance policy. You can check with your states health insurance exchange for an Obamacare plan or discover the individual policies available in your area that isnt offered on the exchange. All individual health insurance policies purchased after January 1, 2014 through the exchanges mandated by the Affordable Care Act are required to provide mental health benefits. Tip: If your income is moderate, you may be eligible for help paying your monthly health insurance premiums if you choose a health plan on your Affordable Care Act health insurance exchange. Tip: If you have a standard health insurance plan that doesnt cover mental health services, consider changing to a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) that does cover mental health services. If the deductible amount for the HDHP is less than your current yearly out-of-pocket expenses, you might come out ahead. Many HDHPs can be combined with a Health Savings Account, allowing you to pay the deductible with pre-tax money. Medicaid If you meet income and other eligibility criteria, you may be eligible for Medicaid. Medicaid programs are administered by each state, so benefits vary from state to state. However, some states provide at least some mental health insurance coverage within the framework of the medical health insurance. Medicare If youre 65 years old or older, you may be eligible for the Medicare. Medicare provides mental health benefits for inpatient treatment, outpatient services, and through Medicare part D for prescription drugs. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, (Medicare part C), youll need to check your plan to determine the specifics of your mental health benefits. Tip: A sub-category of Medicare Advantage plans called Special Needs Plans may benefit you if you have significant mental healthcare needs. In addition to providing basic Medicare Advantage coverage, SNPs provide expanded benefits for specific conditions, including certain types of mental health conditions. For example, a mental health SNP might provide you with expanded mental health treatment options and better coordination of your mental health treatment with your medical treatment. Disability If you have a chronic, severe mental illness that makes it impossible to work, you may be eligible for disability benefits. Although disability benefits dont automatically include health insurance, after receiving disability benefits for two years you may become eligible for Medicare, including Medicares mental health benefits, even if youre not yet 65 years old. If disabled, you might also be eligible for Medicaid, including the mental health benefits provided by your states Medicaid plan. Applying for disability can be a long, complicated, and arduous process. You should only consider it if your mental health issue is truly debilitating. Veterans Administration If you served in the military, you might be eligible for VA health benefits, including mental health benefits. The VA has extensive mental healthcare programs for former members of the Armed Services.

No Comprehensive Database Of Civilians By Law Enforcement

The United States keeps no comprehensive database of civilians killed by law enforcement and has no law requiring them to report excessive or deadly force. Without a way of knowing how many people the police kill every day, the corruption and the death count will continue to rise, and seems it has been for quite some time. It is a very difficult challenge to document and prove police brutality given current laws and lack there of. The only number that is kept by any United States agency is the F.B.I s justifiable homicides list. However, that list is widely inaccurate due to lack of cooperation by law agencies, and incomplete data (Lowery 2). The statistics that are acquired for the justifiable homicides list is done so by letting the 17,000 law enforcement agencies choose whether or not to self-report any case involving an officer shooting a firearm. The list has not been published since 2013, the previous 5 years to that, the numbers that were stated came to be an average of arou nd 400 justifiable homicides a year. So if the list is incomplete, the question now becomes how many people really do get killed by law enforcement each year, and do people attempt to track it? the answer is yes people attempt to track it, and yes it is indeed a much higher number than the FBI s previously stated number. The definition for the list is the justified killing of a felon by a peace officer in the line of duty. Dalton University and College Sports Free Essays

Persuasive Essay Language I 4th hour Dalton Wright Should College Athletes Get Paid? Do you think college athletes should be paid while they are in season? If you do think that college athletes should be paid by the University to play a sport or sports, then I disagree. You are probably thinking that I am crazy for saying that college athletes should not get paid, but just here me out on why I think they shouldn’t be paid. They get full ride scholarships! College athletes get full ride scholarships that include: great medical plan, free housing, free food, tuition, sometimes maybe even a computer. We will write a custom essay sample on Dalton: University and College Sports or any similar topic only for you Order Now So why should they get paid when they get all this stuff? Well they don’t have enough to work in order to clothes and necessities? Some colleges even pay for that. They should already have clothes to wear anyways. Also they can work when they are not in season. They still might have practice or workouts and what not, but they can still fit in work, school, and Sports. If they really need money that bad I am sure they have siblings or family that could loan them some money. Not paying the players is going to teach them to be more responsible about managing their time. When you decide to go to college to play a sport, you are going hoping that you are good enough to go to the pros and then get paid there. Paying the athletes is going to alter their motivations for going to college for a sport. Athletes are going to college to learn their field so they will be good at what they do. Then they get paid for it when they get out of college. Paying the players sounds good on paper but will never happen without a series of incidents and scandals. If universities pay their players three hundred dollars this year they are going to want one-thousand dollars next. They are going to keep demanding more money. This is not the pros. The pros get paid and the amateurs are still learning. There for they should not be paid for learning their field. College athletes pay is their full ride scholarship that pays their tuition, board, books, food, etc. It is going to hurt the players integrity by giving them more than what is needed. If you start paying athletes who generate the most revenue, what will happen to the college sports that don’t make as much money for universities? Will participants in women’s sports be docked because they don’t historically generate as much money as a college football program? These are the important questions we must ask when considering this. If the universities pay the football players and not the other athletes, it will not be fair and the other athletes will go on strike. There are just too many issues with paying the athletes. The women’s sports do not generate enough revenue to pay the women athletes. If the athletes got paid then college sports would lose a lot of fans. The players would not be as hyped as they are when they aren’t paid. College athletes have this hype that is unlike professional athletes. This is why college sports are so much more popular. They generate just as much money as the professionals and the tickets are cheaper. Paying these athletes would ruin a long on going culture. This is why college would lose so many fans. Athletes will start to play for the money and not for the love of the game. This will change the mood and tone of the stadium. It is called college sports because the athletes that play in it are students and not professionals. Another big reason why college athletes should not be paid is because colleges are paying enough money to build facilities, pay coaches, give scholarships, and pay athletic directors to make sure that they have the best chance of winning. If colleges pay their athletes, there will not be as much money to go around for any of these things. Also, in a bad economy like this, they can’t afford to pay athletes. If a school wants to pay a big-time coach, they can’t pay their players. Also, they are already helping their players get into the school by giving them their scholarships so that they can make school as affordable as possible. People forget that college athletes are also called student athletes. Student means learning. In college they are students just like everyone else except they play a sport. Students don’t paid to get good grades or do well on a test or activity at school. You are supposed to learn how to manage your life and grow up. You are expected to get a job to support yourself and learn what it takes to survive in this country in its day and age. On top of that how are coaches supposed to discipline there players when they screw up a play or decide to take a day off if the players know that they are still going to get payed. Another reason many people love college sports is because they are students just like you. They are in the classroom and you see them on campus. Other students feel closer to them because they are part of the community just like them. Paying college athletes separates them. It takes all of the buzz out of it. 3d Animation in Film Industry free essay sample

1. 0Abstract Evidence of artistic interest in depicting figures in motion can be seen as early as the still drawings of Paleolithic cave paintings, where animals are depicted with multiple sets of legs in superimposed positions, clearly attempting to convey the perception of motion. [1] Other examples include a 5,200-year old earthen bowl found in Iran in Shahr-e Sukhteh and an ancient Egyptian mural. The Persian bowl has five images painted along the sides, showing phases of a goat leaping up to nip at a tree. 2][3] The Egyptian mural, found in the thomb of Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum, at the Beni Hassan cemetery. The paintings are approximately 4000 years old and show scenes of young soldiers being trained in wrestling and combat. [4] Egyptian burial chamber mural. Seven drawings by Leonardo da Vinci (ca. 1510) extending over two folios in the Windsor Collection, Anatomical Studies of the Muscles of the Neck, Shoulder, Chest, and Arm, show detailed drawings of the upper body (with a less-detailed facial image), illustrating the changes as the torso turns from profile to frontal position and the forearm extends. They do, however, indicate the artists intentions and interests in depicting motion. http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/History_of_animation 2. 0Introduction 3D animation has been in movies and computer games since the 1970s. The initial techniques were simplistic and were only featured for certain aspects such as the space back grounds and special effects in â€Å"Star Wars†. Since the graphics used in 3D animation are computer generated the technology followed the advances in computer software. After the release of the Apple Macintosh personal computer, programs such as 3D Studio Max made it even easier to put motion graphics into films and computer games. As the 1980s progressed, computer generated graphics and animations became a staple in most commercial media. The technology kept getting better and better until 1995, when the film company Pixar raised the bar on 3D technology with their box office hit â€Å"Toy Story†. Toy Story† was the first feature film created entirely with 3-dimensional animations. Since then Pixar and other film production houses have jumped on board and began producing similar films because they were guaranteed to be hits, but Pixar remains the top studio. The process The main reason the technology used in 3-dimensional animations took off dealt with the amount of work it took to create a motion graphic in a digit al setting creating depth to the images. The process begins with developing a primitive outline of a character or object. -dimensional animation differs from 2-dimensional animation because it is done entirely through a computer program rather than paper. After the initial model is created the animator begins texturing it to give the character more depth and adding realistic details. During this step the animator adds features such as hair and clothing. The last step of creating an animated character is the actual animation and adding in the last of the physical details. The animation of a character can be done in various ways such as moving the characters frame by frame or using a built in physics engine to help the characters move naturally. Once this is completed, the character is finished, but the characters that need to be created and animated are only a small part of a 3D project. Along with the characters the background needs to be created as well as the lighting that will be used and the sound for voice-overs and music. After all of these components are put together you will finally have a complete animation sequence. The use of 3D 3-dimensional animations are still used in movies and video games but the prevalence of its use has led to even more commercial uses. Today both television and internet ads use 3D technology and the software used to create the animations is available to the general public. TV advertising in particular has taken advantage of the use of animation. Because of the limitless possibility of characters and settings, the typical physical and location limitations virtually disappear. In the end, creating an advertisement via digital animation saves both time and money. The editing process is a part of the creation and companies paying for the ads already know the cost of the advertisement with no chance of error or problems arising to raise the final ad cost.
